Doug Abram is a saxophonist, composer, and occasional visual artist based in Chicago. He is the founder of the Black Bear Combo and a member of Tijuana Hercules, La Cosa, and Larvavision. In addition he has recorded and performed with Hungry March Band, Esso! Afrojam Funkbeat, Lovely Little Girls, Cheer-Accident, the Steve MacKay Ensemble, and many others.

Doug was born in Berwyn, Illinois and grew up in a family of artists. He briefly played clarinet at the age of eight, taught himself drums in punk and noise bands in high school, and after college returned to clarinet, soon expanding to saxophone. At the beginning he learned primarily by playing along to recordings of Balkan and Eastern European music. Since then his methods have expanded but always remain autodidactic. He studied visual art and design at Columbia College Chicago where he graduated with a BA in 1998.
